Ireland
It is always a privilege and a delight to visit, and to guide in Ireland. The people, the ever-changing but always deep green countryside. The historic sights are very special to so many people whose family roots are here. We can help you plan your personal tour, whether it be to sight-see, get to know the people, or find some family roots (or, as is usual, a combination of all three!).
We can meet you at your airport where you are to arrive in this beautiful country and begin your guided car tour immediately, or we take you to where you will be staying for your first night or two for time for you to recover from your journey, and begin to sense the unique atmosphere of Ireland.
Dublin is an excellent place to begin your tour. Have two or three days there, sample a couple of lunches in the bars and get talking to the Dubliners; actually a Dubliner will often open the conversation! Or make Dublin your final destination, after you have flown into Shannon. Head south from there for Kerry and Cork. The Blarney stone is nearby at Blarney Castle, but kissing it is optional!
If you go north from Shannon, you are soon in the West of Ireland, the most rugged part. See the Cliffs of Mohar off the west coast. As you head towards Galway, visit Yeats' Tower and Coole Park. Connemara is an area of hills and seashores and charming villages, ideal for visiting by car. You pass through Counties Mayo and Sligo on your way to Donegal. Just north of Sligo City you can visit Yeats' grave in a churchyard that boasts a high Celtic cross and part of a round tower. Celtic crosses can be found all over the country
Don't forget Northern Ireland, which is part of the United Kingdom:The Glens of Antrim are impressive, as is the coastline, which includes the Giant's Causeway, a towering spectacle. You can drive to Dublin via the Boyne Valley and the Hill of Tara.
In all parts of Ireland there are ruined abbeys set in delightful scenery, and sometimes amongst grazing cattle. See some of the great round towers (there are about 120 in all), tall pencil-like structures, dating from before AD 1000. There is a magnificent one at Glendaloch in the Wicklow Mountains, worth a day's trip fom Dublin.
Let us know what you would like to see and we can suggest an itinerary. Or if you want an introductory car tour with your own driver/guide, we can design one for you. Don't forget, you do not have to fly into Ireland, you can come by sea from Scotland or Wales!
