Angus, Perth and Fife

Angus Coast sceneThese counties are local to us at Tours des Forges; we have our office in the heart of Angus. Dundee is our nearest big town, of Jute, Jam and Journalism fame. If you are staying at any of the hotels which have links with us, we can meet you with an hour to 90 minutes notice For a half-day or day's touring in these delightful, prosperous counties of Scotland.
Let us conduct a personal guide tour for you by car, even if its just for a four hour half day, or for a full day of nine hours. Please contact us -- so that we can get under way quickly!

A pleasant half-day tour might include some of the following; a visit to the ruins of Arbroath Abbey. Brechin Cathedral with its Irish round tower, almost unique in Scotland, (the only other round tour is at Abernethy near Perth -- we can take you there too!), the great Adam House of Dun. Quiet, colourful gardens at Pitmuies and Edzell.

If you are at an hotel nearer Perth, what about a half-day in pretty town of Dunkeld, with its fine cathedral and quiet square; go for tea/coffee after a browse, and perhaps a purchase or two at the nearby House of Bruar, the home of Country Clothing.
Scone Palace and Blair Castle are hard to beat as treasure houses of Scotland.
On Loch Tay, the Scottish Crannog Centre is well worth a visit -- a crannog is a defensive homestead built out in the water from 5,000 years ago; see a reconstruction at The Scottish Crannog Centre.

Glamis CastleIn Angus, we have one of the most interesting castles of Scotland : Glamis Castle. Its long family history, and its close association with the Royal Family makes a tour an absorbing experience. HM Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother, (although born in England), spent her childhood here, and, as a young woman, ran a convalescent hospital in the castle for the wounded during the First World War.

On the south side of the river Tay lies the ancient kingdom of Fife , which in so compact a space has almost more than its fair share of things to see and do. On the coast there is St Andrew's, home of Golf and the 'Royal and Ancient Golf Club', St Andrew's is also a delightful University town. There are ruins also: a cliff-top castle, and a cathedral, both with a delightful small harbour below. For more seaside delights drive the East Neuk coast, for charming fishing villages; Crail , Anstruther, Elie . . . and many more that overlook the Firth of Forth.

Farther west there is the Firthside village of Culross (say it "Cureross"!) with its quaint cobbled streets. Nearby is the ancient city of Dunfermline , with the ruins of its great abbey, the burial place of many kings and queens. It is also the birthplace of Andrew Carnegie -- see the modest cottage where he was born. -- there is a palace too at Dunfermline. At Falkland there is a fine palace, very much associated with Mary Queen of Scots, , Falkland is also a delightful old town to stroll in.

Carnoustie Golf courseIf you are staying in our neighbourhood, let us give you some half-day or day tours of Angus, Fife and Perth, you will be delighted at our many undiscovered treasures of countryside and scenery, you will want to return for more, or to re-visit our beautiful towns and villageswith their historic treasures.
We will be pleased to take you on shopping visit to any part of our area -- or outside: perhaps Edinburgh, where you might also like to dine and/or go to the theatre . . . what about a trip to Pitlochry, and a visit to the theatre there?
